Stephen Boahen is a Systems Agronomist at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Nampula, Mozambique. He holds a Ph.D. in Agronomy from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada. He has vast experience in intensification of smallholder cropping systems, soil fertility management, plant stress physiology and seed systems. His main research interests include the development of improved crop management strategies for legume-based cropping systems with a focus on identifying the physiological and management constraints to agronomic performance; development of sustainable soil fertility management through nitrogen fixation, P application and cropping systems. He has led the development and strengthening of community-based seed systems in Mozambique working with smallholder seed producers, farmers’ associations and private sector seed companies. He is involved in participatory research and technology dissemination in collaboration with farmers' associations, community-based organizations, NGOs, University students and the National Agricultural Research and Extension Staff. Stephen served as the N2Africa Country Coordinator for Mozambique from 2011-2014.
